Thomas Ellery

Private Prosecutions & Financial Crime Solicitor

Solicitor London Solicitor in an SRA-regulated legal practice

This profile describes representative areas of work. Current practising status can be checked on the public SRA record.

Role and focus

Thomas is a solicitor advising on private prosecutions and financial-crime matters. He assesses the alleged conduct, available evidence and legal test for commencing criminal proceedings before recommending a prosecution route.

He coordinates preservation, witness material, unused material and the early case file with investigators, forensic specialists and counsel where required. Related civil or recovery steps are identified so that one route does not unintentionally compromise another.

Thomas advises clients on merits, prosecutorial duties, cost and procedural risk before proceedings are commenced. A private prosecution is not guaranteed to begin or succeed, and the CPS retains the power to take it over.
